Near the end of January, adidas had unveiled a number of Primeknit-equipped NMD releases, one of which was the black and white R1 Pack 2 iteration. That NMD “R1”
had turned out to be one of the best of the final weekend that month. For some reason, the sneaker became known by varying nicknames, including the “NMD_R1” and the “NMD Runner PK.” However, with spring already here and summer approaching, a more season-appropriate version of adidas’ popular runner would be the casual, boot-like NMD Chukka. Even better, it will come dressed up in the debut OG colorway of NMD runner.
The color combination that this upcoming NMD Chukka is sporting was first seen when adidas introduced their NMD running sneaker. In fact, the introduction of the NMD played its part in enabling the Three Stripes to dominate the sneaker scene in 2015. However, it was not until March this year that adidas crafted another hybrid version of the NMD, this time giving the runner a more Chukka boot-like mid-top design. The NMD Chukka had made its debut in a monochrome colorway and it was predominantly made up of suede, but it is probably obvious that this will not be the case with the NMD Chukka “OG.”
Instead of suede, the uppers of the NMD Chukka are made up of mesh and much like the NMD OG, are dressed up entirely in ominous black. NMD Chukka is also equipped with clean white Boost foam midsoles, while the thin outsoles are again covered in black. Adding a premium touch, black leather accents can also be spotted over the lace eyelets and eyestays. Of course, this is not a monochrome rendition, so blue and red colored EVA inserts are present and either Chinese or Japanese text can be spotted over the white heel pull tabs at the back.
For some reason, this sneaker first arrived at Three Stripes stockists in Europe. As of now though, the adidas NMD Chukka “OG” is available at select retailers all over the globe and interested sneakerheads may cop it from Fresh Sneakers for $160 or so.
